Using Work Incentives to Pay for Work-Related Expenses:
Impairment Related Work Expenses (IRWEs) and the Plan to Achieve Self-Support (PASS)
Online Webinar:
Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023 from 10 am – 12 pm
Did you know that you can use work incentives to help pay for work-related expenses like transportation?
You can do this by using Impairment Related Work Expenses (IRWEs) and the Plan to Achieve Self-Support (PASS).
IRWEs are “out-of-pocket” costs for items or services needed to work because of one’s disability, such as some forms of transportation, therapy, attendant services, assistive technology, medical needs and more.
PASS is a tool that helps an individual with a disability reach a work goal.
It enables a person to receive higher SSI payments while working than they would ordinarily get to help pay for expenses needed to reach their goal. A PASS can offset up to 100% of the expenses the person pays for to reach their goal, including:
- transportation (even buying a vehicle),
- training,
- education,
- tools,
- equipment,
- computers,
- assistive technology,
- business start-up costs and more.
In some cases, a person who has too much income (like SSDI) to receive SSI can actually use a PASS to qualify for SSI.
Register to attend the webinar on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023 to learn more about:
- who can benefit from IRWE and PASS,
- how to estimate the amount of expenses IRWE and PASS can help fund for a person,
- and how to get help using these work incentives.
